Amyable Nature

I sometimes wish Dreamworks had produced an animated Tarzan movie instead of Disney. I love the Phil Collins songs, I love the score and I love Glen Keane’s animation of Tarzan. But so much of it falls victim to the typical Disney formula, especially with the cutesy sidekicks and the heavy focus on little kid Tarzan. And I do remember being a kid myself and thinking “okay enough, let’s get on with it.”

I like to imagine Tarzan without the sidekicks and the schtick, told through the artistic direction, eye for uncompromising detail and writing talent of, say, the Prince of Egypt team.
